Interested in receiving FREE assistance to create/update your School Travel Plan?

Would you like to have hands-on School Travel Plan assistance offered by the VT SRTS Resource Center?

A School Travel Plan is a written document that outlines a school community's intentions of making travel to and from school more sustainable and safe. The plan is completed through a team-based process and will be the school community's guiding document for putting a successful Safe Routes to School program in action.

Benefits of creating a school travel plan include:

  • School Wellness Policy fulfillment by planning for increased student physical activity
  • A prioritized set of needs and targeted resources
  • Continuity of actions when leadership and participation levels change
  • Creation of new partnerships between school, families, local officials, transportation professionals, police, health advocates and the community at large
  • A mechanism for securing funds for projects and programs
  • A plan for evaluation that tracks progress and outcome
  • Greater community awareness and involvement around travel issues

By engaging in the School Travel Plan process, a community commits to the vision of a better place for its children and, ultimately, all of its residents.
